Type Locality and Naming

Column: Syria

Synonym: Rutbah Fm (Formerly referred). This name was rendered obsolete according to "Lexique Stratagraphique: Syrie Interieure." Cherrife Shale 5 Fm, Cherrife Shale 4 Fm, Cherrife Shale 3 Fm, Cherrife Shale 2 Fm, Cherrife Shale 1 Fm


Lithology and Thickness

It is further divided into Cherrife Shale 5 Fm, Cherrife Shale 4 Fm, Cherrife Shale 3 Fm, Cherrife Shale 2 Fm, Cherrife Shale 1 Fm. This formation is 50m (type locality) of red to brown, hematitic, sandy, and pyritic shale. Some streaks of limestone and dolomite with intercalations of white/grey/green, quartzitic sandstone.
